27 curved glass-modules collect the energy provided by the sun. They create an output of more than 2kW.

2. Energy management

A specially designed system stores the energy in batteries and optimizes the performance of solar-modules, batteries and motor.

3. Electric motor

Two silent electric motors make this boat easy to handle and allow it to turn on a point The Solar Shuttle will eliminate the production of 2900lbs of CO2 per year compared with a conventional Diesel boat of similar size.


Why solar?

The SolarShuttle does not depend on wind or fossil fuels, with the only source of energy being
the sun. It will not create any pollution or noise, making the boat an optimistic ambassador for a beautiful, economical and ecological future.
The Solar Shuttle will eliminate the production of 2900lbs of CO2 per year compared with a conventional diesel boat of similar size.

What happens if the sun doesn't shine?

Solar cells are fuelled by general light and are not dependent on sunshine. On a grey London day the solar cells still create more power than needed to drive the boat. As a back up, the batteries allow the shuttle to drive 20 miles in complete darkness.

How does solar PV work?

Solar PV is solar electric technology. It generates electricity from daylight by using semi-conductor technology.

Is it much more expensive than a conventional boat?

No, due to its modern construction, the initial cost is only 15% higher than comparable conventional boats, but this cost should be recovered within 3 years in fuel savings, due to the free energy supply.

What is the life span of the boat?

Some of our boats have been in use for over 10 years and are still in great shape and working every day. Due to the sustainable nature of the materials used, such as stainless steel, the boats last longer than conventional constructions.

Could Solar boats run on the Thames?

Yes, SolarLab is currently developing Solar boats for 250 passengers which could run on the Thames.
