about bluebird
BlueBird Boats LimitedBlueBird Boats Limited were formed in 1998 by Peter and Victoria Scott after winning the contract to run the boating services for the Royal Park’s Agency, providing row boats, pedal boats and a ferry boat for visitors to Hyde and Royal Greenwich Parks. The boats operate throughout most of the year, from February until the end of October, on the most famous stretch of water in the world, the Serpentine, so named because of the snake-like shape as it wends its way from Kensington Gardens through into Hyde Park. Over 100,000 people a year use the boats, for exercise, relaxing, enjoying the wildlife, and sometimes doing nothing except just sitting in close proximity to the water!

BlueBird Ecological LimitedBlueBird were keen to put a ferry service on the Serpentine, partly in response to an ongoing demand from park-users who wanted to cross to the other side of the Lake without having to walk the long way around! BlueBird Ecological Limited, a company limited by guarantee and a government-registered Environmental Body, was formed by Peter Scott and Dave Dakin to commission a new ship. The Solarshuttle will operate between the Boat House on the northern side of the Serpentine and the jetty located halfway between the Diana, Princess Of Wales Memorial Fountain, and the Lido Cafe’, sailing from each side at half-hourly intervals With Liberty Drives, the providers of free mobility in Hyde Park, the Solarshuttle, with its crew-assisted wheelchair-access ramp, will enable people with restricted mobility to visit parts of Hyde Park not previously easily accessible. It is anticipated that the Solarshuttle will also be a valuable educational resource for Hyde Park, providing a base for lessons in water safety, wildlife, science, ecology and our environment. |
